Take on Responsibility - Social Projects at MBS
Social responsibility is among the necessary personality characteristics for future managers. At the Munich Business School, it has become a good tradition for every student to participate in the planning and implementation of a social project during the first year of study. This requirement has led to a large multitude of initiatives and events in the past few years. They range from regular visits and joint undertakings with elders or people with disabilities to the personal support of charitable organizations and public-oriented events such as benefit galas, the sales proceeds from which finance non-profit projects around the globe.
The projects of the more recent past include the youth soccer tournament “Play soccer – get together”. Former professional soccer player Christian Nerlinger among others participated in the organization of the tournament as a second-semester MBS student. The organizers managed to win over the Bitburger brewery as a sponsor for their aim of collecting money for the renovation of a soccer pitch in the outskirts of Munich. The sports director of the DFB, Matthias Sammer, was also extended an invitation to the tournament and supported the aims of the MBS students.
The support of non-profit institutions through the initiatives of MBS students is not limited to Germany. With a concert event in the Max-Joseph auditorium of the Munich Residence, seven students collected donations for the psycho-neurological institute Peterhof near St. Petersburg. Some 1,000 people live together in this facility under difficult conditions, including predominantly children with a wide variety of physical and mental disabilities. With the donations, the students hope to contribute to improving the furnishings and thus the living conditions of the residents.
