Tongji University, formerly Tongji German Medical School, was established in 1907. It was given its present name and became a state university in 1927. Today Tongji University is one of the leading universities directly under the State Ministry of Education in China. It offers degree programs both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Tongji University started its management program in 1956 and was one of the first Chinese universities to have a management program.
