Chulalongkorn University is not only the oldest university in Thailand, but also an institution of national importance. Founded in 1917 by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) in honor of his father, King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), who had played a key role in the country’s modernization, the university has had a clear mission since its inception: education as a means to achieve national strength and social progress. Today, Chula ranks among the leading research universities in Southeast Asia. With approximately 40,000 students, 18 faculties, a Graduate School, 11 research institutes, and more than 2,800 faculty members, it is one of the most comprehensive universities in the region. Year after year, Chulalongkorn University ranks first in Thailand: in the 2026 QS World University Rankings for the tenth consecutive time, with an overall global ranking of 221 and placing among the top 100 in the areas of academic reputation and graduate employability.
What makes Chula particularly competitive on the international stage is its consistent blend of academic depth and practical focus. The Chulalongkorn Business School (CBS), formerly the Faculty of Commerce and Accounting, exemplifies this commitment: as one of less than 1% of all business schools worldwide, CBS holds the coveted “Triple Crown” accreditation—that is, simultaneous recognition from AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA. This is the highest international mark of quality for business schools.
International students find a wide range of options at Chula: more than 100 programs taught in English are available, complemented by courses designed specifically for exchange students. The learning environment has a deliberately global focus: a network of more than 100 partner universities and a high proportion of international students foster encounters, perspectives, and networks that extend beyond the classroom. Those who study here not only face academic challenges but also grow personally, right in the vibrant heart of a global metropolis.
