Munich Business School was founded in Munich in 1991 as the first private university in Bavaria and was originally called the Europäische Betriebswirtschafts-Akademie (eba). Its name changed to Munich Business School in 2003.

In principle, you can submit an application with a foreign school-leaving qualification. When we receive your application documents, we will examine whether your specific school-leaving qualification makes you eligible for university-level study in Bavaria. In many cases, international students have to complete a one-year foundation course or attend a preparatory college and complete an assessment test before they can commence their studies at a German university. Our student advisors would be happy to check over your documents, including your CV and last three end-of-year reports, before you submit your application.
MBS offers the preparatory pre-bachelor program for the bachelor program.
The pre-bachelor program is suitable for all applicants who do not meet the English-language or mathematics requirements. Held from September to December, the pre-bachelor program prepares you for the Duolingo test and includes courses in mathematics and business communication. In addition, the program serves as a source of guidance and can help you to decide whether embarking on business studies at MBS is the right decision for you. Admission to the pre-bachelor program requires applicants to be eligible for university-level study and have English-language skills of at least level B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
You can start your bachelor degree in International Business either in the spring term, in which case you would start studying in February, or in the fall term, in which case you would start studying in September. Classes run from mid-January/February to May (spring term) and from September to December (fall term). There are no classes from May to September or from December to mid-January. Students take exams at the end of each term in May and December. If you study abroad for a term, your term dates may vary depending on the university you select.
The pre-bachelor program runs each year from September to December. You can then move on to your bachelor studies starting in February.
The bachelor program runs for six semesters of teaching (i.e. 3 years). After completing these six semesters, students write their bachelor thesis.
The pre-bachelor program runs for around 4 months (from September to December).
The MBS bachelor program is a full-time course of study. Classes take place during the week, from Monday to Friday. You can expect an average of 25 hours of teaching per week. In order to ensure that students continue to learn and are as successful as possible in their studies, attendance at all classes is mandatory. Including preparation and follow-up work, you can expect a workload of around 40 hours per week.
In the case of the our Bachelor International Business, exams are held at the end of each term, i.e. in May and December. The exam diet includes both written and oral examinations, project presentations and project documentation. Students are also required to complete other tasks alongside their classes over the course of each term. At the end of the bachelor program, students write an academic thesis.
You can choose to complete the Bachelor International Business as a solely English-language program or as a bilingual course of study. On the English Track, all teaching is provided in English; on the Bilingual Track, around 70% of your studies will be in German and 30% in English – the perfect preparation for a future business career, both in Germany and internationally.

The pre-master program is conceived for all applicants hoping to commence master-level studies at MBS but who do not already hold a university degree in business science. In this three-month course, you will become familiar with fundamental aspects of management, finance, accounting, marketing and communication. In order to be accepted onto the pre-master program, you most hold a university-level degree (in any subject) from a state-accredited university and have a very good command of English. The program is conducted online.
Master programs at MBS start in the fall term, meaning that you will start your studies in September. Classes take place from September to December (fall term) and from mid-January/February to May (spring term). There are no classes from December to mid-January or from May to September. Students take exams at the end of each semester in May and December. If you study abroad for a semester, your semester dates may vary depending on the university you select.
The pre-master program takes place online from May to August each year. You can then move on to start your master studies in September, provided you pass the exams at the end of the pre-master course.
Master programs at MBS last three semesters (18 months), including the master thesis. If you opt for a dual degree, your period of study will be extended to four semesters (24 months).
The pre-master program lasts approximately three months and runs online from May to August every year.

In the third semester of the Master in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, students also have the option of developing their start-up idea and receiving coaching from MBS teaching staff.

In order to be admitted to the Doctor of Business Administration program, candidates must hold a master degree in business, management or another related subject area and have at least five years’ professional experience, of which three years should have been in a management position, including team leadership and budget responsibilities. You must submit an initial research proposal as part of your application. There is no numerus clausus (NC) for the program. You can start your Doctor of Business Administration program in the fall term, which means your studies will commence in September. The three mandatory modules take place at approximately six-month intervals as five-day block classes.
The extra-occupational DBA at MBS and Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) takes at least four years to complete.
The DBA program at MBS and SHU is an extra-occupational program, meaning that it is intended to be completed in parallel with your professional duties. In order to complete the program within the intended time frame, we recommend allowing for 8 to 10 hours per week of self-study in addition to the block modules.
The final element of the DBA program is an academic doctoral thesis, which is a mandatory requirement of the doctorate. You will also be set various tasks during the block modules, such as literature reviews, which you should complete within the set timescales. Beyond this, self-study and independent time management are essential elements of the program.
The Doctor of Business Administration is an exclusively English-speaking program.
The tuition fees for the Doctor of Business Administration are €36,000.
On the DBA program, an additional €3,600 is charged for each year beyond the standard study period of four years.
In the vast majority of cases, tuition fees are paid in annual or monthly installments. The first installment is due when you start your studies. You can pay all fees by bank transfer or via PayPal.
German immigration law requires a Student Visa (Visum für Studienzwecke) to take up any kind of studies. The exact regulations vary depending on the country issuing your passport. If you are holding a passport of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland you only require a valid ID card or comparable identification to travel to Germany. If you are not holding a passport of any of the above mentioned, you have to apply for your Student Visa at the German Embassy in your home country. Do not enter Germany on a tourist visa, because it cannot be changed into a visa for studies. In such a case you would have to return to your home country!
It often takes several months for a visa to be issued. It is therefore important that you apply for a visa as soon as possible.
Your proof of financial resources verifies that you can pay for your period of study. At least the living expenses for your first year in Germany must be fully financed. In general, at the moment around 10,332 euros of income or assets are required for the first year. But evidence of higher amounts may also be requested. The German embassy in your home country will provide more information on the proof that needs to be provided.
All citizens in Germany need to register their address at their city of residence. If you will be staying in Germany for longer than three months, you need to register your address at your local citizens’ office, the Resident Registration Office (Einwohnermeldeamt). To register, you will need your passport or identification card as well as a confirmation in writing from your landlord or property owner.
By German law each student who is enrolled at a German university needs proof of health insurance - without proof you cannot be enrolled. The physical location is not important! The insurance has to start on the first day of your semester and ends one month after the last enrolled semester. European citizens living within the European Union are eligible to receive a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) from their health insurance company in their home country. The EHIC simplifies the procedure when receiving medical assistance and is sufficient as proof of insurance.
MBS does not provide any active housing assistance. Renting in Germany can be a challenge to everyone, and especially internationals. It must be a priority for incoming students, as it often takes a while to find suitable housing. It happens quite often that students are not able to book their own apartment from abroad because their budget is limited and they therefore are dependent on finding a room in a shared apartment. However, if this is something you are looking for then be prepared that your roommates want to meet you before you move in. Also, keep in mind that rooms or apartments are only online for a short period. It only takes about 1-2 hours for a property owner to receive enough requests for an apartment. An important aspect to consider when living in Germany is how much it will all cost. Munich is an expensive city. We estimate that your living costs will be between 1,450 - 1,750 EUR per month. Your budget will mostly depend on how you manage your free time (e.g. travelling, eating out, concerts, using sports facilities, visiting museums and clubs).
MBS is focused on helping new arrivals feel welcome and integrated into their new life at MBS and in Germany as a whole. To assist you with your transition to Munich and MBS, the staff at the International Center will support you during specially designed orientation days and throughout your stay.

It is mandatory for every student in Germany to have health insurance. You cannot enroll at MBS without proof of a valid health insurance. The physical location is not important! The insurance has to start on the first day of your semester and ends one month after the last enrolled semester.
All students need to submit a specific confirmation form ('Versicherungsbescheinigung zur Einschreibung bei Ihrer Hochschule') issued by a German public health insurance provider (gesetzliche Krankenkasse) adressed to universities.
Please contact a German public health insurance provider (gesetzliche Krankenkasse i.e. TK, Barmer, AOK etc.) and request the confirmation for your enrollment ('Versicherungsbescheinigung zur Einschreibung bei Ihrer Hochschule').
Even if you have German or European private insurance, you still need to contact a German public health insurance and request the specific confirmation for your enrollment as proof of your health insurance.
